Gents

Gents is situated in a conservation area, among the back streets of Bruton.

When first arriving at this decaying public convenience in 2017 we were filled with an unusual sense of excitement that is often unexpected when setting foot into a toilet. However, At Modern Heritage seeing the client’s vision is an area we excel in. We can stand by you studying your unmoulded clay and visualizing your Art Gallery product.

The client wanted to create a Manhattan style barber shop within the walls of this 1990 neglected building. A full transformation was embarked on, removing walls to create an open plan setting in the mere 29.5 SPM space. The construction had limited natural light, something that is needed in a barber shop, we created more by adding roof lights into the vaulted ceiling allowing the light to charge through this before dark & dull space. The trickery of mirrors was magical within the building, extending & expanding the intimate setting.

This building conversion will always be held highly for Modern Heritage as its one that was short listed for an LABC award.
